Have you ever prayed for something so hard and so long that if God sent an angel to you with the answer, you wouldn’t recognize or believe it?  Zacharias didn’t.  He asked Gabriel, “How will I know this?”  His response was not pleasing to God.

Zacharias and his wife Elizabeth were righteous people- they lived a life that was honoring to God.  But they did not have any children.  In that day, being barren/ unable to have children was often seen as a sign of divine disfavor.  Zacharias and Elizabeth had no doubt prayed for years for a child, but may have thought God had decided not to give them bless them in that way.

But God had not told them “No,” but “Wait on my timing!”  Looking at it from their perspective, it was too late.  But God was not only giving them a child, but that child (John the Baptist) would herald the coming of the long awaited Messiah of the Jewish nation!!

What have you been praying for?  Could it be that God has already sent your angel/answer and you didn’t recognize it?

We need to be willing to let God answer our prayers when and how He sees fit.  And who knows, he may even respond to that prayer we thought it was too late answer in a way greater than we had ever imagined. But we have to seek Him First.

During this season of Advent we celebrate the fact that Jesus is coming again, but don’t forget that He is already here for us! All we have to do is ask Him to come in.
